The client was the adoptee. She was 83 at the time she requested that I identify her bio parents. She had the name of the bio mother, the location of the home for unwed mothers, and her original given name. No other information existed only one court document with the bio mother’s name. My client wanted me to figure out which of 30 possible candidates was her, the bio mother’s name was common in the 1930s. After narrowing it down to 5 possible candidates, I then asked her to take an Ancestry DNA test. Using her DNA match results and genealogy documents, I was able to narrow down who her birth father was. I found one of the 5 possible candidates for her birth mother living only 2 blocks from the birth father. Once I concentrated on this individual, I found documents to confirm her as the birthmother. At age 83, my client was enjoying great emails back and forth with 2nd cousins, the first blood relations she had ever communicated with, it was wonderful.
